Important information

Drivers under 21 or over 65, or with less than 1 year of driving experience, are not permitted to rent. If the driver does not meet the rental requirements at pick-up, the booking will be cancelled without a refund.

Electronic driver's licenses are not accepted. The International Driving Permit must be in the format of the 1949 Geneva Convention, with the cover marked "Convention on Road Traffic of 19 September 1949". International Driving Permits based on the Vienna Convention, Paris Convention, Washington Convention, or with non-compliant formats are invalid. A translation of a driver's license cannot replace an IDP. A bus license is required for vehicles with 10 or more seats.

The driver's license must be valid, the holder must have entered Japan less than one year ago, and the passport must have an entry stamp.

Holders of driver's licenses from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Monaco, or Taiwan must provide:

• Original driver's license
• Japanese translation issued by an authorized organization (such as an embassy, JAF, or the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association)
• Original passport showing entry into Japan less than one year ago, with an entry stamp

Mainland China driver's licenses are not supported. If you hold a Mainland China driver's license, you will not be able to pick up the vehicle.

Holders of a third-country driver's license and an International Driving Permit must additionally provide a residence permit for that country or the entry/exit permit at the time of issuance.

For those registered in the Basic Resident Register, if they return within 3 months after leaving Japan, they may not be allowed to drive.

U.S. Forces Japan-related driving permit:

Holders of a POV license and base ID card may rent a car. The POV license must be marked "AUTO/JEEP"; those marked "BASE ONLY" or "STUDENT DRIVER PERMIT" are invalid.

Translation documents are valid only if issued by the embassy or consulate of the home country in Japan, the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF), or the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association.

Identification: Valid passport.

Driver's license: At the time of pickup, the driver must provide one of the following license combinations, otherwise the order will be canceled without refund.

• Original physical driver's license matching passport information + Original paper International Driving Permit (IDP). The IDP is a translation of your driver's license. You must still carry your original driver's license at the time of pickup.
• Mainland China original driver's license + International Driver's License Certification (IDL). The IDL is a standard translation document that translates a Mainland China driver's license into 9 languages in accordance with the United Nations Convention on Road Traffic. Holders of this certification together with their original Mainland China driver's license may rent a car in Malaysia. The validity of the IDL typically matches the validity of your original driver's license.
• Local citizens: Valid ID card and original physical driver's license issued locally. Order will be canceled without refund if the license is not presented at pickup.

If you have resided in Malaysia for more than 6 months, a local driver's license is generally required.

Identification: Valid passport.

The IDP must be valid at the time of pickup (typically valid for 1 year). If you have stayed in Taiwan for more than 30 days, you must have your IDP verified by the local motor vehicle office before pickup.
• Hong Kong passport + Hong Kong driver's license + Entry Permit + Hong Kong-issued IDP. The driver's license and IDP must be issued by the same region and valid at the time of pickup. Only government-issued IDPs are accepted.
• Macau passport + Macau driver's license + Entry Permit + Macau-issued IDP. Same requirements as Hong Kong.
• Japanese original driver's license + Official Chinese translation issued by JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) or the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association. Note: Japanese IDPs are not accepted for driving in Taiwan. A JAF Chinese translation is required.
• The following countries/regions driver's licenses are not valid for driving or renting a car in Taiwan due to reciprocal agreement restrictions: Vietnam, Mongolia, Myanmar, Malta, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Sudan, Romania, and others. Please confirm with the rental supplier before booking. Failure to present a valid driver's license may result in denial of pickup without refund.
• Local citizens: Valid photo ID card (Taiwan) and original physical driver's license issued in Taiwan. Order will be canceled without refund if the license is not presented at pickup.

Supported credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, JCB. At pick-up, present a physical credit card in the main driver's name with at least 6 months of remaining validity. Debit cards, including Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit, are not accepted for the deposit.

At pick-up, the rental location will place a deposit hold of approximately JPY 100,000 on the main driver's credit card. Depending on the rental company and vehicle class, some premium vehicles may require 2 credit cards in the main driver's name. The final amount and requirements are subject to the pick-up location.

The deposit is normally pre-authorized at pick-up as security for the rental. If the vehicle is returned without damage, theft, or other outstanding charges, the hold will be released or the deposit refunded in full. The time taken for the available balance to be restored depends on the card issuer.

Supported credit cards: Visa, Mastercard. At pick-up, present a physical credit card in the main driver's name with at least 6 months of remaining validity. Debit cards, including Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit, are not accepted for the deposit.

At pick-up, the rental location will place a deposit hold of approximately MYR 500–1,000 on the main driver's credit card. Depending on the rental company and vehicle class, some premium vehicles may require 2 credit cards in the main driver's name. The final amount and requirements are subject to the pick-up location.

If the vehicle is returned without damage, theft, or other outstanding charges, the hold will be released or the deposit refunded in full.
