Pickup, driving and return

Pickup checks, fuel, accidents, breakdowns, keys, damage and return changes.

Your booking terms take priority

Availability, prices, limits and protection conditions can vary by pricing terms, branch and brand partner. Always use the terms shown for your booking as the final source.

01

What is required on the day of rental?

Bring: (1) a licence valid in Japan—a 1949 Geneva International Driving Permit, an eligible foreign licence with Japanese translation, or a Japanese licence; (2) a passport if you do not hold a Japanese licence; and (3) the main driver's credit card.

02

Do I need to refuel my vehicle?

Yes. Vehicles are supplied with a full tank and must be refuelled before return. If not returned full, fuel is charged from distance travelled or the remaining gauge level and may cost more than the actual pump price.

03

What should I do if I am involved in an accident?

Complete all three steps immediately: (1) give first aid and, when safe, move the rental vehicle out of traffic; (2) report the accident to police from the scene by calling 110 and obtain the police accident record; (3) contact IX Rental from the scene using the emergency support details in the rental agreement. These steps are required for insurance and compensation.

04

Do I need to follow the accident procedure for small scratches?

Yes. Every incident is treated as an accident regardless of damage size, dents or third-party involvement. If the required steps are not completed, insurance and compensation may not apply and you may be responsible for the cost.

05

Can I change the return time or return location during the rental?

Contact the pickup location before the agreed return time. Staff must check later bookings and availability before approving the change. Extra-hour and one-way fees may apply. The change is not valid until confirmed.

06

What should I do for a breakdown, warning light or flat tyre?

Stop in a safe place and contact roadside support. Do not continue with a red or flashing warning, low oil pressure, overheating, unsafe tyre or other serious symptom. Do not use a repair kit, replace parts or authorise repairs unless instructed, except for immediate safety.

07

What should I do if the key is lost, stuck or locked inside?

Secure the vehicle and contact roadside support or the pickup branch. Do not force the lock or ignition and do not use an unapproved locksmith. Replacement, delivery or lockout service may be chargeable depending on the selected protection and cause.

08

How should I record existing damage at pickup?

Inspect the vehicle before departure and compare it with the condition record. Report any unlisted scratch, dent, glass, wheel or interior damage before driving away, and keep the accepted record or photos. Use the branch’s formal inspection path when provided.
